At Central Heights ISD, we believe strong instruction begins with high-quality resources. We are committed to providing our teachers and students with instructional materials that support the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), promote academic growth, and meet the needs of our students.

We also value transparency and recognize the important role parents and families play in their child's education. This page provides information about instructional materials used at Central Heights ISD, the district's local review and adoption process, parent access to instructional resources, and requirements established by House Bill 1605.

Instructional Materials Review & Approval

At the state level, instructional materials may be reviewed through the Instructional Materials Review and Approval (IMRA) process. Established by House Bill 1605, IMRA is overseen by the State Board of Education (SBOE).

Through IMRA, instructional materials are evaluated for alignment with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and other state-established criteria.

It is important to note that instructional material decisions remain a local responsibility in Texas. School districts are not required to use materials simply because they have been approved through IMRA. Central Heights ISD evaluates instructional resources based on state requirements as well as the needs of our students, teachers, and classrooms.

CHISD Local Adoption Process

When Central Heights ISD considers new instructional materials, the district follows a local review and adoption process.

Depending on the subject area and materials being considered, this process may include:

• Reviewing alignment with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
• Evaluating the quality and rigor of instructional content
• Considering the needs of CHISD students and teachers
• Gathering input from educators and other stakeholders when appropriate
• Reviewing available state-approved instructional materials
• Considering accessibility, usability, and instructional support
• Presenting instructional materials for approval in accordance with district and state requirements

Our goal is to select resources that provide our teachers with strong instructional support while giving our students meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.

As part of Central Heights ISD’s commitment to parent transparency and open communication, the Scope & Sequence for instructional materials used in CHISD classrooms is available to parents upon request. To request this information, please contact your child’s campus principal.
